INSPIRE Series: Spiritual Gifts (by Amber Meyers)

I am so honored to start off the INSPIRE series with a post from my dear friend Amber. I have had the pleasure of meeting Amber (in real life y'all) and am blown away by her sincerity and love for Jesus.

As women we wear many hats: daughter of Christ, wife, mom, friend, daughter, mentor, and the list goes on and on. I think sometimes the weight of it all becomes to much and we forget that we all have something to offer and that all have been given gifts from God, 1 Peter 4:10-11 says:

"God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen."

I beat myself up over not having it all together or not being able to give 100% of myself to one thing but God has slowly been revealing to me that I am here for a purpose and I have gifts and talents to share with not only my family but others. I believe God has called me during this season of life to be a mentor to high school girls. Over the past year I’ve been working with the high school ministry at our church and it has blessed me ten fold. High school wasn’t necessarily great for me and it really left some emotional scarring that I still carry around with me but it wasn’t for nothing. The experiences and mistakes I made in my youth have opened up some great dialogue and discussions with these teenage girls. I have been able to affirm Jesus’ love for them and hopefully build up their self-esteem. They are walking along side of me in my walk with Jesus just as I am with them. Getting to worship with them on Sunday mornings, crying with them over broken hearts, celebrating their successes, laughing at our silliness it’s all because of the gifts and talents that God has instilled in me to further his kingdom. To me I am know one special and I don’t have much to offer but the Bible reminds me these type of people are exactly the ones God uses. He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things and we all need to remember that we are no exceptions to that.
